This is about the level 34 (in case that matters) main storyline quest Stashy's Question, originally available from an NPC in the Royal Castle.
Near as I can tell at the moment, the quest is about dragons, or at least will be, anyway.
Dragons are interesting and breath fire. They also have origins lost with the ancient, or ancien, race to inhabit the world of dragon's nest, who are called the Ancients. There is currently one Ancient confirmed as living, and may be more. Anyway; dragons. They are a relatively mysterious bunch of creatures that are of a relative historical importance, but more importantly, they can breath fire and look really cool. So I figured I would record the dialogue related to this quest, im order to possibbly shed some light on them.
Don't judge me. T_T
That reminds me; there is a part before this in the quest, where Stashy gets you to go to the Dying City Crossroads to get a necklace from one of the bosses, Karen, because he wants to throw off anyone eavesdropping. This is because what he wants to talk to you about is some sort of classified information.
Stashy: *Stashy raises his voice when he sees you.* "Ah, here you are. I have been researching monsters at the crossroads for a long time. Hear that? I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING MONSTERS AT THE CROSSROADS FOR A LONG TIME."
Player: "I think the guards get the point, Stashy."
Stashy: *Stashy peeks around and seems satisfied that the coast is clear.* "There's a Gold Dragon hiding in the Royal Castle Basement. I hear he's guarding the Prophet. Is that true?"
Player: "Are there rumors about that already?"
Stashy: "No, no. I have my own way of learning about these things. Can't trust politicians. No doubt Duke Stuart will spin some fabulous tale that puts Him in the limelight."
Player: "I had no idea you were so cynical, Stashy."
Stashy: "Fools, every last one of them. Dragons are unlike the rest of us. Even the heroes from the Dragon Raid were agitated when the Gold Dragon revealed himself."
- An interesting thing to note: unlike other NPCs in the know about the Gold Dragon thing, he knows, or acknowledges, that the Gold Dragon Gerrant and the Gerrant of the Dragon Raid are the same being.
Player: I like that. "Agitated."
Stashy: "Lady Kasarana and Varnak were so upset that they had the truth about Gerrant's identity concealed."
Player: "Ah, so you discovered all of that in your research?"
Stashy: "I certainly did. And much more besides. But now, my research has reached a standstill. There's only so much that's written about dragons in books, but you..."
Player: *Stashy grabs you by the shoulders and shakes you."
-... This could just be narration, but it's in the same spot as the player's dialogue, so whatever.
Stashy: "You have firsthand access to a dragon! Go, I need you to speak to Gerrant on my behalf and get the answers to all of my questions."
Players: "I, uh, I suppose I can go talk to him... If you let go of me."
Stashy: *Instead of letting you go, Stashy pulls you into a fierce hug. His tears wet your shoulders.* "Thank you! Oh thank you! This is the happiest day of my life! Now, I want you to ask him whether all dragons are artificial constructs."
Player: "Artificial constructs? What do you mean?"
Stashy: "I just have a hunch that dragons aren't really REAL. Go find out for me."
That's the end of that part of the quest, next the player goes to the Royal Castle to speak to Gerrant...
- It's possible that information from this quest could be referenced for a... something... about the Dragon Raid as well.
Gerrant: *Gerrant listens as you ask Stashy's question, then sighs.* "I can explain it to you, but I doubt your human friend will be able to grasp it."
Player: "I think he would like your explanation nonetheless."
Gerrant: "Very well, I shall try to explain it."
Player: "Thank you."
Gerrant: "Long ago, the Tempest Dragon's lustre was split into pieces. From those lustres, the other dragons were formed, including the Black Dragon. So in that sense, yes, some dragons are "artificial constructs."
Player: "That wasn't so complicated."
Gerrant: "However, Argenta and I were NOT made this way. She and I were born from the essence of the Sentinel Dragon when it split itself in two to save the world. In that sense, we were "born", not "constructed"."
Player: "Your explanation is slowly becoming less and less clear."
Gerrant: "Then allow me to explain from the beginning. At the start of the world, the Goddess Althea created two dragons, the Tempest Dragon and the Sentinel Dragon. They were to be the guardians of this world."
Gerrant: "The two dragons watched over the ancients, and all was well until the Goddess Vestinel grew jealous of her sister Althea's world."
Gerrant: "Althea was poisoned by Vestinel, and the ancient, who were one with the Goddess' essence, became tainted. They summoned the Void Dragon from the world beyond, and it rained destruction upon the world."
Player: "Whoa, epic."
Gerrant: "The Sentinel Dragon and the Tempest Dragon barely managed to defeat the Void Dragon, but the Chaos Dragon was tainted in the process. His mind was warped beyond all reason."
Player: "Oh no..."
Gerrant: "A new threat was born on the heels of the last, this time, in the form of the Tempest Dragon. The two guardian dragons fought each other, and thunder filled the skies."
Player: "Who happened then?"
-It's possible that this was supposed to be "what happened then?"
Gerrant: "They were equally matched. In the end, they both suffered mortal wounds. The Tempest Dragon's body and lustre was sundered into pieces throughout all of Veratheia, lustres that would soon form other dragons."
Player: "And you and Argenta were born from the essence of the Sentinel Dragon. I think I understand now."
Gerrant: "Yes, with his last breath, the Sentinel Dragon created Argenta and I. We have a single purpose, to stop the Tempest Dragon's Shattered lustres from corrupting the world."
Player: "I never knew ancient history could be so fascinating."
Gerrant: "Ancient history? Yes, I suppose in your mind, it must have all happened long, long, long ago. anyway, have i sated your curiousity?"
Player: "Not yet. What happened to all of the Tempest Dragon's lustres?"
Gerrant: "Fifty years ago, we found those lustres and sealed them, starting with the Black Dragon. Fortunately, none of the other dragons were awake."
Player: "Then we're safe? Those other dragons can't wake up?"
Gerrant: "As I long as I am here, they will not awaken. I do not have enough power to destroy those lustres completely, not does Argenta. Perhaps, if the two of us were reformed as one, we could do it."
-should probably be "nor does Argenta."
Player: "The two of you can be reformed as one?"
Gerrant: "I believe so, though I am not certain. But we cannot attempt it, because Argenta must support the Monolith."
Player: "The Monolith?"
Gerrant: "That is not something your kind need remember. Forget I mentioned it."
Player: "Okay, fine, but tell me this, do all dragons have the same powers?"
Gerrant: "No. When Argenta and I were born, she absorbed most of the Sentinel Dragon's power. She is at least three times more powerful than I. The same must be true of the Tempest Dragon's shattered lustres."
Player: "Argenta doesn't SEEM that strong. Last time, she got her butt kicked."
Gerrant: *Gerrant smiles.* "That is because you have not seen her use her true power. As i said before, most of her powers are being occupied elsewhere. Now, shouldn't you be getting back to your friend?"
Then it's back to Stashy again...
Stashy: "Did you talk to Gerrant?! Quick, what did he say?!"
Player: *You tell him everything that Gerrant said.*
Stashy: "So the Black Dragon was formed from one of the Chaos Dragon's shattered lustres! As long as that lustre exists, new dragons can be created over and over."
Player: "That's terrible news."
Gerrant: "Terrible, but valuable to know. Thank you for your help. I wish I could've gone to talk to Gerrant in person, but I am too ashamed to face him."
Player: "Why are you so ashamed?"
Gerrant: "Fifty years ago, when his true identity was revealed, I was shocked and angry. I, ah, I did not support him. He disappeared wothout a word to anyone."
Player: *Stashy slumps his shoulders.*
-once again, probably some sort of narration. But again, meh.
Stashy: "I'm a scholar! I should have shouted the truth from the rooftops, but when the Six Heroes swept the truth under the rug, I let them. I... I should've spoken up and given credit where it was due."
Player: "This has been a heavy burden to carry, hasn't it?"
The quest ends here... But since this thread is pretty well about dragons, and by extension the Dragon Raid, I'll continue until I get bored. Main Story Quest: Ishilien's question; start!
But first, the quest can be started via Stashy, in saint's Haven, and is a level 34 quest.
Stashy: "Yes, indeed. Why do you think I obsess over the Dragon Raid so much? Now, knowing that the Golden Dragon is well, I can finally breath a sigh of relief. But... I need another favor."
Player: "What kind of favor?"
Stashy: "I am not the only one haunted by the events of 50 years ago. Please talk to Archer trainer Ishilien. Perhaps you can offer her some relief as well."
Now off to Archer trainer Ishilien.
Ishilien: "So you have finally come to speak with me, (Insert name here). That means it must be true. HE has returned."
Ishilien: "Fifty years ago, Queen Narsilia-- I mean, fifty years ago, I accompanied Lady Nerwin to fight the Black Dragon."
Ishilien: "We were in an army of elves and men, and we kept faith in one another, until..."
Player: "Until...?"
Ishilien: "Until the Golden Dragon revealed himself. we were shocked, nay, horrified, when Gerrant revealed himself to be one of the very creatures we were hunting."
Ishilien: "Kasanara and Varnak were outraged, and Gerrant left without a word or explanation to anyone. He and Argenta disappeared, while our sick and injured lay wounded and dying."
*Ishilien's voice trembles with emotion as she speaks.*
Ishilien: "But now I have an opportunity to answer Lady Nerwin's final question. Please, speak to Gerrant for me."
Back to the Royal Castle to talk to Gerrant.
Gerrant: *Gerrant gives you a crooked smile.* "Here to interrogate me again, are you? Well, go ahead. I know people have questions."
Player: *You him Ishilien's question.*
Gerrant: "Ah, the shadow that hung over the world 50 years ago hangs over some people still."
Player: "Including you, I would say."
Gerrant: *Gerrant smiles* "You are right. That shadow and I have unfinished business..."
Gerrant: "Fifty years ago, when Velskud disappeared with the Black Dragon's lustre, I left to pursue him. I still had all of the other Chaos Dragon lustres to seal as well, you remember."
Player: "Why did Argenta leave?"
Gerrant: "The contamination of Vestinel ran too deep. Monsters were growing in strength. Argenta rushed to strengthen the Monolith."
Player: "You keep talking about that Monolith. I think you'd better tell me what it is."
Gerrant: *Gerrant sighs* "I suppose you are right. The Monolith is the structure the Goddess to this world. Without the Monolith, this world would break."
Player: "I had no idea such a thing existed."
Gerrant: "Most people don't. For the last fifty years, Argenta has poured all of her power into keeping the Monolith standing, but when she saw the Star of Awakening, she headed to Carderock Pass to search for the descendant of the Ancients."
Gerrant: "And I think you know what happened after that. does that answer your question?"
Back to Ishilien... I'm sensing a pattern here...
Ishilien: "I have waited 50 years to unravel this mystery. Please, tell me what the Golden Dragon said."
Player: *You relay Gerrant's words while Ishilien listens carefully.*
Ishilien: *When you finish, Ishilien is silent for a long moment.*
Player: "Do you forgive them for leaving."
Ishilien: "I am not sure, but am starting to understand them. they are here to protect the world, nothing more. They have done much for us, and I should be grateful, yet..."
Player: "Yet?"
Ishilien: "Yet would it have been so hard for them to sympathize with our pain? We considered them our friends... We loved them as one of our own...
Player: *Ishilien's face is so pained that you reach out and pat her shoulder.*
Ishilien: "Gerrant was our leader! He had our complete trust! And yet HE had no faith in us. He did not tell us the truth. we would've listened, if he'd tried even ONCE to reach out, but he didn't. I don't blame Kasarana or Varnak for their anger."
Ishilien: "And then they left. Gerrant and Argenta simply walked away. No word of explanation, no apology, no regret. They used us to fight their war, and then they tossed us out when we were of no more of use to them."
Player: "Maybe I should talk to him again, get more of an explanation."
Ishilien: "No, there is no point. They are pursuing their destiny, journeying to find their telezia. I cannot fault them for that. I must let it go."
Player: *Ishilien looks so sad, though.*
Ishilien: "Like the wind, I must let it all pass. I will focus instead on finding my own. Yes, that's what I shall do."
Once again, it's time to return to Gerrant... Even though Ishilien pretty well said to leave it...
Gerrant: *You ask Gerrant why he left 50 years ago without a word of explanation, and Gerrant sighs.* "I had no time. I had to catch up to Velskud. That was the first time that I'd heard that others were chasing that lustre, as well. Velskud was not working independently."
Player: "Who was he working with?"
Gerrant: "I don't know for sure. I have a hunch, but it's just a hunch."
Player: "You could have returned afterwords to explain things to the others."
Gerrant: "I know. I have no excuse. The truth is, after the raid, many were injured, and I did not have the ability to heal them."
Player: "Well, it's hardly your fault. They would've understood."
Gerrant: "It is my job to guard the people of this world, and I did it the only way I knew how. I knew my friends would hate me for btraying them, and I let them. I wanted them to. Hatred keeps people alive as well as any medicine, you know."
Player: "Er, I don't know where you heard that, but I don't think it's true."
Gerrant: "Perhaps not. Perhaps I was simply too ashamed. It does not matter anymore. Now, go. Return to the sunlight and pursue things that matter now. It does no good to linger over the past."
Next, go to the Royal Castle to... look for errands to do...
Bishop Ignacio: "Ah, it is like my anxieties melt away every time I see you stroll this way."
- probably because he makes you deal with them...
Player: "Uh oh, what's wrong?"
Bishop Ignacio: "Everything, but you know that already. Some days, I cannot sleep for worry of Saint's Haven."
Player: *The bishop is giving you that "I'm sending you into battle" look.*
Bishop Ignacio: "Much evil energy remains in the Black Sovreign Domain."
Bishop Ignacio: "We must purge that land of evil."
Bishop Ignacio: "However, we cannot do it alone..."
Player: "But Gerrant is injured and Argenta is--"
Bishop Ignacio: "We cannot rely on them for everything. I have been doing some research, and I believe there is a way to purify the land by borrowing the power of the ancients."
Player: "Tell me what needs to be done."
That is technically the end of that... so I'm going to finish up here, because I'm getting bored, and have less time to be online these days... If anyone wants to pick up after this, or even re-do it, which is understandable considering the over all poor quality of this... thing... Anyway, if anyone wants to pick up where I left off, the next quest is "A Dark Remnant", and is probably where the Bishop begins to show his true -evil- nature.
Near as I can tell at the moment, the quest is about dragons, or at least will be, anyway.
Dragons are interesting and breath fire. They also have origins lost with the ancient, or ancien, race to inhabit the world of dragon's nest, who are called the Ancients.
