Seeing the sorceress guide (serenitydn.freeforums.net/thread/216) prompted me to get around to writing some guides of my own.

This is the base of a sniper build, and as you can see it has unspent SP.
Starting with the archer tree, there are two common variations.
Maxing twin shot to 20, OR, maxing wisdom of the owl to 5. Personally, I opted for maxed wisdom of the owl for party support, as the archer tree is not meant for dps.
Moving on to the sharpshooter tree, there are multiple options available. You can pick and choose where you put the remaining SP.
Some common variations involve:
Getting all of the magic skills at 1. This is to have all of the magic skills available for their benefits like filler dps, SA breaking, or special effects, such as guided missiles’ radar effect.

Another is getting frag arrow to 11. This is to have a stronger filler dps skill.

Or leaving frag arrow at 1, and getting swift shot to 11. Like frag arrow, 11 swift shot is used for stronger filler dps.

Some builds remove fake shot, to get an extra 3 SP to put elsewhere, but I recommend keeping it as it can be a useful escape move.
Using the first build (all magic skills at 1), there’s still left over SP.
You could either ankle shot to 6, for the higher dmg and binding time,

or get rain of arrows to 6, for higher dmg, however RoA is a bit situational as it requires a stationary target to be effective.

This still leaves 3 SP left which could be placed as 12 siege stance, 2 arrow barrage, and 7 anklet shot/rain of arrows.

^ That is the build I use.

Sniper tree is a given max everything.

This gear sim shows the type of gear a sniper is recommended to use. Alternatively, the tech necklace could be an agi roll instead of a vit roll.
If swift shot was pushed to 15 like here, dnarmory.com/skill-calc?i=2-14-29-60#bh3TRDHLV_NbWkXqRaqy, the wind earrings should be switched to a swift shot tech.
